NY ComicCon

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 8, 2009, 3:21 PM
On saturday, me and my friend attended the NY ComicCon. We're both into comics, and into video games (obviously), so it seemed like an opportunity to have an awesome time.

We left Stamford, CT at 7:56 on the train for Grand Central, and already some weird stuff. We saw our friend from middle school who just happen to be going into the city that day too, so we sat together and chatted it up. On the way there, my friend points out that there is a lot of smoke coming from that building up ahead. We started to look, thinking that it was on fire, but we couldn't see any flames so we weren't sure. As we got closer, we saw the single apartment on like the 30th floor ablaze, and saw fire shooting out of the windows. It was 8:30 in the morning on a saturday, and it seemed like nobody in the building seemed to notice. literally the apartments next door seemed completely normal. We decided to call 911 (since everyone on the train besides us is a dumbass and didn't know what to do), and we alerted the authorities, and later on the news it talked about a tip from a train alerting the fire dept :D

So, we get to NY and start walking. We finally get to the Javitts center, and already start seeing the weirdos. We stood in line for a good 45 min, and were finally corralled into the convention. I'll save you all of the stupid stories like the Jedi Fights, $9 Philly Cheese-stakes and $4 Sodas, My friend steeling about $70 worth of Graphic Novels from a stand, etc. etc. And tell you about the games/comics.

I was already kind of mad, because we missed the debut of the new futurama movie on friday :D But the day we were there, one of the biggest names in comics, Goeff Johns, was there. He is our favorite writer, and the program said he wasnt gunna be there. he was, and we didn't bring our stuff for him to sign. fuck my life. Those autographs are worth tons, and we have so much stuff written by him.

anyway, the games. A lot of games were being showcased, mainly anime ones (Naruto, DBZ, that kind of badness). But there were also some games like the New Battlefield, Prototype, and Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box. First off, those who are fans of Battlefield are going to be dissapointed. the new battlefield looks...TERRIBLE. it looks like pixar got the rights to the game. it honestly is way to cartoonish. You move way too much when you are running (like your gun moves in a windmill motion, it's dumb) and thus your aiming suffers. It's bad.

Prototype was the star game of the show. For those who don't know, Prototype was announce a LONG time ago, and has been in production for a while. The premise of the game is you are some sort of genetic experiment gone wrong, and you just destroy shit in New York. I mean, it's really not fair how much of a beast you are. You are unstoppable. literally. You can jump as high as buildings, run as fast as a plane, throw tanks like it's nothing. You have these giant claws for hands, and you can just walk up to people and crush their skulls, or target someone and plant your claws into the ground, and have a giant claw come up from the ground and impale them and everyone around them. It's a free-roam game that gives you objectives, but you can just destroy shit if you like.

Think GTA meets Resident Evil on Steroids.

Anyway, we stayed a while then headed out, with a shit load of comics and funny memories. We made our way back to Grand Central, and back home. Definitely going next year :)
